Malcolm Clarke reports on recent Chandlers Ford A & B team matches, plus tournament news: the Hampshire Chess Association Congress plus our own Tournament.
In the first 19 games of Malcolm Clarke’s captaincy of the Chandlers Ford A team not a single match finished all square, but now the team have drawn their last three matches. The latest draw was against Winchester where some of the visiting players were playing at the William Walker club in Winchester for the first time, even if three of the Chandlers Ford players had previously played for Winchester. On board 2 David Holmes’s opponent forced a draw by perpetual check early in proceedings, but winners were Graham Stuart and Peter Przybycin for Chandlers Ford and Doug Beer and Mike White for Winchester.
Chandlers Ford’s poor recent record against University teams ended when their B team beat the University C team 3-1 thanks to wins from Dick Meredith and John Kooner and draws from Peter Przybycin and Sam Murphy.
Chandlers Ford players Dave Holmes and Keven Lamb entered the Hampshire Individual tournament and Holmes finished second equal in the major section, while the Chandlers Ford tournament which begun in May has resulted in a four way playoff between Phil Overton, Peter Przybycin, Sam Murphy and James Daas all of whom got four points from five rounds with the first playoff matches being played later this month.
