How to set DGT 2010 clocks

David Culliford from Chandler’s Ford Chess Club explains how to set the DGT 2010 digital clocks, and how to set them with increments. Southampton Chess League, and our own internal club tournaments, make use of the 80+10 time control (80 minutes each plus increment of ten seconds per move).

How to set the DGT 2010 for a 80+10 match step by step

A step by step guide below, but viewing the videos is a really good way of learning how to set the clocks – David shows you how to do it very clearly.

  • Switch on the digital clock
  • Select setting 18. Many of our clocks have helpfully been set already – if not, or to check it’s ok, continue to next step
  • Set minutes to 80, setting the 8 by using the + and – buttons, then ticking ok button when you get to 8, then ok-button the ‘0’ column. Each click of the ok button takes you to the next display column or the next feature to be set.
  • Next, seconds: do not add any seconds – this isn’t the increment part yet. This setting is if you wanted for some reason to have a game of a number of minutes plus a number of seconds for the game. Just click ok for the 00 seconds.
  • Repeat for the second player’s basic 80 minutes, remembering again to not set any seconds at this stage.
  • Increments. Now comes the increments bit. Use the + and – to set 1, click ok, and 0 digits, click ok for the ten second increment. Do the same for the other player settings.
  • Ready to play, place the clock on the table, with the white player’s rocker in the up position. The game starts when black presses the middle, ‘play’, button.
